Designer to Watch: Lisa Kingsley

Fashion Wire Daily NY May 14, 2003 - There is no room for discussion with L.A.-based designer Lisa Kingsley regarding the requisites for her creations. Aside from the indispensable "clean, modern lines" of many a designer she likes, "high quality fabrics, made so the body looks skinny and sexy, with some fun details" is absolutely essential for her collection -- a style the leggy blonde herself sports.

Kingsley's focused, upscale line, Lisaki, centers around black-and-white slinky dresses, mod tops, leather jackets and skirts with a twisted neck, shredded appliqué and some flagging and mesh thrown in for punch. Her travels to the exotic locales of Tokyo, Malaysia, Bali and Sri Lanka are evident throughout the collection, which has just been broached for 'Sex in the City.'

But not content with her burgeoning success with Lisaki, she is now launching 'Lisa Kingsley' her namesake and sporty, secondary line. The 25-piece collection made solely with Italian knit jersey, is cool and pop arty. The pieces in a combination of turquoise, or strawberry with pink, white, beige and black, are colorful and, most important to Lisa, "easy to wear, very day to night."

Camisoles, flirty skirts, and easy dresses are the basis of the collection; many pieces are reversible or can be donned back to front or front to back. The price point of Lisa Kingsley is well below Lisaki, which was another factor important in its inception. "It's fun to design things more accessible in their look and price point," Kingsley says.
