Kate Spade's Yummy New Bags

Fashion Wire Daily NY May 28, 2003 - Kate Spade has teamed up with Häagen-Dazs to produce a series of limited-edition totes inspired by the Häagen-Dazs T-shirts, sold in Häagen-Dazs ice cream shops in the late '70s and early '80s.

It's a natural partnership for the bag designer, well known for her sugary sweet fashions. The T's, with their bold graphics and colors, were collected by Kate as a kiddie; and while on the hunt for T-shirts for an upcoming ad campaign, she realized the Häagen-Dazs graphics were a luscious match for her handbag designs. Customers have the choice of Strawberry, Rum Raisin, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Coffee and Boysenberry.

At $195 a flavor, it won't be the cheapest treat you've splashed out on, but it will certainly last longer than most.

To celebrate, the two companies will donate 10 percent of the profits from the "Kate Spade and Häagen-Dazs" collection to Publicolor, an organization that teaches inner-city students commercial painting skills, using vibrant color.

The bags hit Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's and Marshall Fields in June and will be available through August.
