Tropical Storm Julio Drenches Baja California August 29, 2008
Tropical Storm Julio appears disorganized as it skirts the southern tip of Baja California.
Most vacationers in the resorts around Cabo San Lucas decided to ride out bad weather from passing Tropical Storm Julio on Sunday as forecasters predicted only heavy rainfall and no significant high winds from the storm’s passage.

Authorities evacuated more than 2,500 families living along riverbeds near the coast as a precaution against sudden flooding.

Julio washed out roads and killed one soldier as it moved through the southern half of Baja California and across the Gulf of Cortez to the Mexican state of Sonora.

Remnants from the storm then brought late-summer thunderstorms to many parts of the U.S. Desert Southwest.
