The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was centered 58 miles (93 km) north of Pucallpa, the capital of Ucayali province, and occurred at 4:00 p.m. local time.
Last year, southern Peru was rocked by a quake registering a magnitude of 8.0, which killed about 500 people and left more than 100,000 others homeless.
